| IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP FROM FELLOW RESIDENT - Saturday, July 11, 2009 Put your car keys beside your bed at night: Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies. 1. This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: --It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. --It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. --It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, odds are the burglar/rapist won't stick around. After a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. --And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there. This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime. P.S. This would also be useful for any emergency, such as a heart attack, where you can't reach a phone. My Mom has suggested to my Dad that he carry his car keys with him in case he falls outside and she doesn't hear him. He can activate the car alarm and then she'll know there's a problem. |
| HOME BURGLARY REPORTED ON APRIL 10, 2009 - Friday, May 29, 2009 We have just received confirmation from the Owasso P.D. of a reported burglary on April 10 in the Garden Homes Section of the neighborhood. | HOME BURGLARY REPORTED IN PHASE IIIE - Sunday, April 05, 2009 Neighborhood Alert:
On Friday, April 3rd a home in the Fairways, Phase IIIE, was broken into during the hours of 8:40am and 3:30pm. The family was not at home. They kicked in the front door - splintered the jam and trim - and it is a BIG solid wood door - no glass.
They may have laid down on the front porch and kicked it in, because it looks like that's where the impact occurred. They must have gone straight to the master bedroom - they took jewelry, watches, and some change. The police said that they probably weren't there more than 90 seconds - that evening the family noticed that one of their pillow cases was missing so that is probably how they carted off the jewelry boxes. They didn't touch anything else that the family can tell.
The police said that burglars usually go for the master - so if you have valuables they should NOT be stored there. They don't have any idea who it could have been. The police said that if the family would have been there, they probably would have pretended that they were selling something or looking for something.
Please know that we live in a low crime area. We just hear about every problem that occurs. The association is putting on a "Safe Escape" program on April 23rd at 7pm (Faith Lutheran Church). Please come to get more info. on equipping your children in difficult situations.
Thank you for you time, Jennifer Rich Neighborhood Watch

Subject: Stranger alert
Date: Thursday, February 26, 2009, 2:54 PM
I wanted to let you know that my son was approached by a stranger yesterday and asked to get in his car. Fortunately, my son knew what to do and ran to a neighbor’s house to get help. It was a black male, approximately 25-30yrs old, 5’ 10”, driving a late model (late 80’s early 90’s)blue Cheverolet. My husband did get the tag number and we did file a police report. As of late, I have been trying to give my son a little more freedom but that has come to a screeching halt. He was with a friend and coming back to our house when this happened. He was only a block and a half from our house. Please be aware and be on the lookout for any strange cars or activity. I’m having a hard time coming to grips with this reality, (definitely didn’t sleep much last night) but want everyone to know that this can happen to anyone, and did to us. Please, just be aware. The police have notified the school and I sent an e-mail to my principal as well. |
